Hornady 050076 Lock-N-Load Concentricity Gauge - Red, Multi-Caliber Precision Tool
Hornady
The Hornady Lock-N-Load O.A.L. Gauge in Straight configuration is a reloader's essential tool for measuring overall length (OAL) accurately and quickly—critical work if you're developing precise handloads for bolt-action rifles, single-shot rifles, or AR-15 platforms. This red steel gauge threads onto specially modified cartridge cases and lets you measure the exact distance from the base of a loaded round to the tip of the bullet as it seats in your rifle's chamber. That means you can dial in the maximum safe length for each bullet profile, avoid pressure spikes from overcramming, and catch signs of throat erosion or chamber issues before they become problems.
Using the Lock-N-Load is straightforward: thread a modified case onto the gauge, insert your bullet, insert the assembly into the rifle's chamber, and use the push rod to seat the bullet against the rifling. Lock the rod, remove the tool, and measure the distance with dial calipers (a bullet comparator makes the job even more precise). Swap in a different bullet weight or design, and repeat—all in a couple of minutes per cartridge type. Because over 60 different modified cases are available separately, a single gauge handles virtually any rifle caliber, making this tool invaluable whether you're building match-grade ammunition, verifying your pet load, or evaluating a used rifle's chamber condition.
This is a demo/used unit—fully functional and ready to work. The Straight design is purpose-built for bolt guns and single shots; if you reload for semi-autos or lever-actions, Hornady also offers a Curved model.

The Straight model is purpose-built for bolt-action and single-shot rifles. It also works with AR-15 platforms. If you reload for semi-automatic rifles (other than AR-15), lever-actions, or pump-actions, the Curved model is the better choice.
This single gauge tool works with over 60 different calibers through the use of specially modified Hornady cartridge cases (sold separately). You simply swap the modified case to switch calibers.
You'll need dial calipers to measure the distance from the base of the cartridge to the tip of the bullet once the rod is locked in place. Using a bullet comparator alongside your calipers is highly recommended for the most precise measurements.
Yes. The Lock-N-Load is excellent for periodically checking throat erosion and verifying chamber condition—valuable when evaluating used rifles or tracking changes in your own barrel over time.
