The Henry Big Boy .44 Mag/.44 Spl lever action rifle is a classic American workhorse built for hunters and sport shooters who value reliability, ergonomics, and stopping power in a compact package. With a 20-inch blued steel barrel and a 10-round capacity, this Model H012G delivers the smooth, intuitive action that's made lever guns iconic for over a century. The .44 Magnum cartridge strikes the balance between power and shootability—plenty of knockdown force for larger game and predators, manageable recoil, and enough velocity for effective ranges well beyond what most hunters need. Pair that with American walnut furniture and you've got a rifle that looks as good as it performs.

Handling matters, and the Big Boy gets it right. The transfer bar safety keeps the hammer from striking the firing pin unless the trigger is pressed, and the side gate lets you load and unload rounds without removing the entire magazine tube—a practical detail that shows respect for how real shooters work. At 7 pounds and 37.5 inches overall, it's short enough to maneuver through brush and dense timber, but long enough to keep the sight picture steady. The fully adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight with diamond insert and brass bead front sight are well-proven platforms; they're quick to pick up in dim light and dead-reliable in the field.

If you run a scope, the rifle is drilled and tapped for the Henry BB-RSM scope mount system, so you can modernize your setup without gunsmithing. For traditionalists, iron sights will serve you just as well—they're faster for close work and will never need a battery. The black rubber recoil pad and swivel studs round out a package that's ready to hunt or spend an afternoon at the range the moment it leaves the box.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I shoot both .44 Magnum and .44 Special in this rifle?

Yes. The Henry Big Boy is chambered to fire both .44 Magnum and .44 Special ammunition. This gives you flexibility in ammo choice and the option to shoot less powerful .44 Special rounds if you prefer lighter recoil or lower cost for range practice.

Will this rifle accept a scope?

Yes. The receiver is drilled and tapped to accept the Henry BB-RSM scope mount system. You can mount a scope without any gunsmithing, though the factory iron sights are excellent and many hunters run them as-is.

What's included with the rifle?

The Henry Big Boy comes with the rifle, iron sights (fully adjustable semi-buckhorn rear, brass bead front), swivel studs for sling attachment, and a black rubber recoil pad. Scope mounts and ammunition are not included.

Is this rifle good for hunting large game?

The .44 Magnum cartridge is a proven big-game round and the Henry Big Boy's 20-inch barrel and 10-round capacity make it well-suited for hunting medium to large game at ranges typical of lever-gun hunting. Iron sights keep you mobile in timber; it's equally at home on the bench or in the field.
