The Great Lakes Firearms AR-15 .223 Wylde is a versatile, no-frills modern sporting rifle built for shooters who want a dependable platform without unnecessary bells and whistles. Chambered in .223 Wylde, this rifle cycles both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO ammunition—a genuine advantage if you reload or shoot surplus ammo from multiple sources. The 16-inch heavy barrel with a 1:8 twist stabilizes everything from lighter varmint rounds to heavier match-grade loads, making it equally at home on the range or in the field for precision work.

At 6.8 pounds and 33.25 inches overall, this AR-15 strikes a practical balance between handling and stability. The upper and lower receivers are machined from 7075 aluminum, the same alloy used in aircraft structures, and the barrel is offered in either 416R stainless steel or 4150 CRMOV with nitride finish—both proven materials for accuracy and durability. Cerakote finish protects the entire platform from weather and hard use. The 15.25-inch full picatinny rail handguard gives you plenty of real estate to mount optics, lights, or other accessories without rail clutter.

The rifle ships with a carbine-length gas system and a muzzle brake (designed for 6-degree forward wrench-on installation without threadlocker), plus one 30-round magazine. The milspec polymer grip and milspec trigger (5.5–6 lb pull) are honest, functional components that work—not fancy, but they're proven. There are no iron sights included, so you'll want to plan your optic setup. The M4 feed ramps ensure reliable feeding, and the .750 gas block is sized for the carbine tube.

This is a builder's rifle for shooters who know what they want and aren't paying for marketing or unnecessary features. Whether you're setting up a dedicated .223 range gun, a varmint rifle, or a general-purpose AR, the .223 Wylde chamber and sensible component choices make this a straightforward, capable platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ammunition does the .223 Wylde chamber shoot?

The .223 Wylde chamber is designed to accept both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO ammunition. This dual compatibility makes it flexible for reloaders, shooters using surplus ammo, or anyone who wants to run either cartridge without worrying about chamber fit.

Does this rifle come with sights?

What barrel materials are available?
