The Forward Controls Design Compact Sectional Rods (18–20 configuration) gives AR15/M16 shooters and field techs a packable alternative to unwieldy full-length cleaning rods. Born from the practical need to clear stuck cases when a mortar tap fails, these sectional rods sacrifice nothing in function while dropping bulk. The 18–20 kit includes a 4.55" handle, three standard-length rods, two short rods, a serrated plug for stubborn cases, and a brass jag for patch cleaning—everything you need in a footprint small enough for your pack, kit bag, or range pack instead of your rifle's stock compartment.

Precision-machined from 17-4 stainless steel with a matte bead-blasted finish, Forward Controls Design rods are built to last and stow without rattling. The modular design lets you configure the rod length to your immediate need: stack short sections for tight spaces (maximum 3.95"), or assemble standard length rods (4.8" each) when you're working the bore. While the kit excels at extracting stuck cases—the original design intent—it doubles as a general-purpose cleaning rod with the included jag, making it genuinely useful at the range or in the field.

The 18–20 configuration is purpose-built for longer AR platforms and won't fit inside standard stock compartments, but that's by design: Forward Controls believes your rods belong in your pack with your spare batteries and small parts, not rattling around inside your rifle. If you prefer stock storage anyway, a 1" elastic band keeps everything silent and secure. Note that these rods thread to 8-32 (not USGI 8-36), though an adapter is available separately if you want to use standard military cleaning attachments.
