The Daniel Defense DD4 RIII 5.56 NATO AR-15 rifle is a purpose-built platform for shooters who demand ambidextrous controls, reliability, and precision in one package. Whether you're running competitive matches, training at the range, or building a dependable defensive rifle, the DD4 RIII eliminates the compromise between left- and right-handed operation. Every critical control—bolt catch, safety selector, magazine release, and charging handle—is fully ambidextrous, so you never have to break your shooting grip or move your dominant hand to run the gun smoothly.

Daniel Defense engineered this 16-inch rifle around a cold hammer-forged barrel paired with a mid-length gas system, a combination that balances accuracy with manageable recoil impulse for fast, repeatable follow-ups. The 12.5-inch RIS III handguard strips weight while retaining serious modularity: it's machined aluminum with M-LOK slots for mounting optics, lights, and accessories, plus provisions for M203 grenade-launcher rails if you need that flexibility. The integrated flash suppressor keeps your signature down and helps control muzzle rise. Mil-Spec receivers, chrome-lined barrel, properly staked gas key, and a heavy phosphate finish throughout mean this rifle is built to handle duty-grade use without flinching.

The included Daniel Defense buttstock and pistol grip are ergonomic, polymer-based units with soft-touch overmolding—comfortable for long sessions and responsive to your input. At 6.52 pounds, the DD4 RIII stays light enough for all-day carry without sacrificing rigidity or controls. It comes with a Daniel Defense hard case and ships with a DD magazine; sights are sold separately, giving you the freedom to choose your optic setup. Made in the USA, the DD4 RIII is a no-compromise ambidextrous platform backed by Daniel Defense's reputation for precision manufacturing and quality control.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the DD4 RIII truly ambidextrous? Can left-handed shooters run it easily?

Yes. The lower receiver is fully ambidextrous with controls positioned for either-hand operation: the bolt catch, safety selector, and magazine release all work smoothly whether you shoot right- or left-handed. The GRIP-N-RIP charging handle is also fully ambidextrous, so you don't have to manipulate it differently based on your shooting side.

What sights come with the DD4 RIII?

Sights are sold separately, so you have the flexibility to choose iron sights, optics, or a combination that fits your mission. The rifle ships without sights, but the upper receiver features M4 feed ramps for compatibility with standard AR-platform accessories.

What is included in the box?

The DD4 RIII comes with a Daniel Defense hard case and one DD magazine. Sights are not included.

Can I attach a grenade launcher or other heavy accessories to the RIS III handguard?

The RIS III handguard features M203 grenade-launcher attachment provisions, so mounting rails for that system are compatible. The handguard uses M-LOK slots for lighter-weight accessories like optic mounts, lights, and grips. Check specific accessory specs for compatibility with the 12.5-inch rail length.
