The CZ 457 Varmint in .17 HMR is a purpose-built rimfire bolt-action rifle for shooters who demand precision on targets and small game. Built on CZ's reputation for accuracy and reliability, the 457 Varmint pairs a heavy cold hammer-forged barrel with a classic walnut stock designed specifically for scope use and precision shooting. If you're looking for a .17 HMR rifle that shoots tight groups and handles a range of ammunition without fussiness, this is a serious contender.
The heavy .866-inch cylindrical barrel does more than look the part—it stabilizes barrel harmonics and allows the rifle to shoot well with varied .17 HMR loads, a real advantage when you're working through different ammunition options. The Turkish walnut stock features an American-style comb positioned for comfortable scope shooting, and the wide, flat forend is built to nestle securely in a sandbag or rest. Laser-cut stippling on the grip surfaces keeps your hold consistent in any weather.
The fully adjustable trigger gives you the break you want, and the two-position push-to-fire safety keeps the action clean and simple. An 11mm dovetail receiver gives you plenty of mounting options for rings and bases. At 7.08 pounds with a 20.5-inch barrel, the 457 Varmint balances enough heft for stability with enough portability for a full day in the field chasing varmints or punching paper at the range.

Is the .17 HMR good for varmint hunting?
The .17 HMR is effective on prairie dogs, rabbits, and similar small varmints at reasonable distances. Its flat trajectory and minimal recoil make it great for precise shooting. Always verify local regulations for your intended use and game.
Can I use different .17 HMR ammunition in this rifle?
Yes—one of the strengths of the 457 Varmint's heavy barrel is that it shoots well with a variety of .17 HMR loads, so you can experiment to find what groups best in your rifle without expecting finicky performance.
