The Colt 1911 Government in .45 ACP is the American classic—a full-size, single-action semiautomatic pistol that defined the service handgun for over a century and remains a top choice for shooters who value proven reliability, stopping power, and straightforward operation. This model pairs the iconic 5-inch barrel with an 8-round capacity, delivering the handling and ballistics that have made the 1911 a cornerstone of duty, sport, and personal defense use.
Built on a steel frame with a blued barrel and carbon steel mainspring housing, the O1911SE-A1 combines classic materials with thoughtful ergonomic refinements. The upswept beavertail grip safety and low-profile thumb safety prevent accidental discharge while staying snag-free for draw and presentation. A Commander hammer keeps lock time clean, while the checkered front strap and checkered slide stop deliver positive control and manipulation—details that matter when you're running the gun hard at the range or in training.
Sighting is handled by a Novak brass bead front sight paired with a Novak low-mount carry rear sight, an offset combination that's faster to pick up than traditional dovetails and built for practical shooting. The special serial number range marks this as a distinct production variant, adding collectibility to a platform that never goes out of style.
If you shoot .45 ACP, understand the 1911's trigger and manual of arms, and want a full-size Government model with quality sights and control enhancements, this Colt delivers the combination that shooters have trusted for generations.
