The Cimarron 1858 New Model Army Revolver in .38 Special with a 7.375" barrel bridges Old West aesthetics with practical modern cartridge shooting. This reproduction revolver draws its lineage from the original Remington New Model Army, a workhorse sidearm that saw service in the Civil War and beyond. Cimarron has refined these replicas for shooters who want authentic period handling without the complexity of black powder—you get the iconic look and feel of a classic 19th-century revolver chambered in .38 Special, a cartridge that's manageable, affordable, and reliable for sport shooting, cowboy action competitions, and historical reenactment.

What sets Cimarron's version apart is attention to detail. The 7.375" barrel is long enough to deliver consistent velocity and sight radius, while the full-length ejector rod lets you clear spent cases quickly. The revolver is built to handle modern metallic cartridges—a leap forward from the cap-and-ball originals—so you load, shoot, and reload without the mess and time investment of black powder. Whether you're drawn to this platform for its historical significance, its role in cowboy action shooting, or simply because a well-balanced .38 Special revolver is a joy to shoot, the 1858 New Model Army delivers authentic function in a package that feels right in your hand.

Cimarron's reputation rests on building replicas that don't just look the part—they work like the real deal. This revolver respects the original Remington design while accommodating modern shooters' expectations for reliability and ease of use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Cimarron 1858 New Model Army and the original cap-and-ball Remington?

The original 1858 Remington New Model Army fired black powder and percussion caps. Cimarron's version is converted to fire modern metallic cartridges—in this case, .38 Special—making it far simpler to load, shoot, and maintain. You get the authentic look and handling characteristics of the 1858 design without the complexity of black powder operations.

Is the 7.375" barrel longer than other versions?

Cimarron offers the 1858 New Model Army in multiple barrel lengths. The 7.375" barrel on this model provides a good balance between sight radius, velocity, and overall handling. Longer barrels are available in other configurations if you want to explore different options.

Is .38 Special the right choice for this revolver?

Yes. Cimarron builds this 7.375" model specifically for .38 Special. The cartridge is mild-recoiling, widely available, and affordable—making it ideal for sport shooting and competition. Other Cimarron 1858 configurations are available in different calibers like .45 Colt and .44-40 if you prefer those options.
