The Charter Arms Off Duty .38 Special revolver is a purpose-built concealed carry revolver designed for shooters who need reliable, pocket-friendly protection without the printing and snag hazards of traditional firearms. This 5-shot, double-action-only revolver pairs a lightweight aluminum frame with a steel cylinder and barrel, tipping the scales at just 12 ounces—light enough to disappear in a waistband, jacket pocket, or ankle holster, yet substantial enough to deliver the stopping power of .38 Special +P ammunition.
What sets the Off Duty apart is its enclosed hammer design. Unlike conventional revolvers, the shrouded hammer won't catch on fabric or snag during the draw—a critical detail when you're carrying deep in a front pocket or under a cover garment. The compact grip fits naturally in smaller hands and pockets alike, and the fixed sights keep the profile low and snag-free. At 2 inches, the barrel is short enough for true pocket carry while remaining long enough to deliver consistent velocity and accuracy at defensive distances.
Built from heat-treated aluminum and steel, this Off Duty revolver is engineered for durability and corrosion resistance. The black finish with hi-polish stainless accents balances aesthetics with function. Whether you're a backup gun enthusiast, off-duty professional, or civilian carrier seeking a no-fuss deep-concealment option, the Charter Arms Off Duty delivers proven reliability in a package light and slim enough that you'll actually carry it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Charter Arms Off Duty suitable for pocket carry?
Yes. The 2-inch barrel, compact grip, enclosed hammer, and 12-ounce weight make the Off Duty ideal for pocket carry. The shrouded hammer won't snag on fabric, and the slim profile fits standard pants and jacket pockets without printing noticeably.
What ammunition can I use in the .38 Special Off Duty?
The revolver is chambered in .38 Special +P, meaning it's rated for both standard .38 Special and the higher-pressure +P loads. Always verify your ammunition matches the .38 Special or .38 Special +P marking on the cylinder.
Can I use this revolver for backup or off-duty carry?
The Off Duty is designed exactly for that role. Law enforcement and security professionals have used it as a backup or deep-concealment revolver. The reliability of a revolver combined with the compact, lightweight profile makes it well-suited to secondary carry.
How does the double-action-only trigger work?
The DAO (Double Action Only) trigger means every shot is fired by pulling the trigger through a complete cycle—there is no single-action or manual hammer-cocking option. This design is inherently secure during carry and prevents accidental discharge from an unintended hammer position.
