The Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special revolver in stainless steel is a compact, hard-hitting wheelgun built for shooters who refuse to compromise between power and carry-ability. At just 2.5 inches of barrel and 21 ounces, this Model 74421 delivers serious .44 Special stopping power in a frame sized for everyday carry—a rare combination that appeals to home defenders and outdoors-minded shooters alike. The double-action-only (DAO) mechanism keeps the trigger consistent and the action fast, with a five-round cylinder that balances capacity with a grip you can actually manage in practical shooting situations.

Built from stainless steel, the Bulldog is ready for the field or the truck without babying the finish. The full grip gives you solid control despite the compact footprint, and that short barrel profiles low enough for waistband or off-body carry without printing like a full-size duty gun. Whether you're after a backup revolver for the range, a truck gun for camp, or a no-nonsense nightstand option, the Charter Arms Bulldog trades flashy features for honest, functional reliability—the kind of gun that runs whether you fire it monthly or sit on it for a season.

The .44 Special round itself sits at the sweet spot between ballistic capability and shooter control. It's not a magnum, so recoil stays manageable enough for follow-up shots and long practice sessions, but it carries real authority downrange. If you've passed over other compact revolvers because they felt underpowered, or you've been eyeing something bigger and worried it was too heavy for pocket or belt carry, the Bulldog bridges that gap with genuine .44 Special performance in a package that doesn't demand compromise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Bulldog small enough for everyday concealed carry?

Yes. At 2.5 inches of barrel and 21 ounces, the Bulldog is one of the more compact options in the .44 Special space and carries easily in an inside-the-waistband holster, shoulder rig, or truck. The short profile won't print like a larger frame revolver if you dress around it.

What is .44 Special, and how does it compare to .44 Magnum?

.44 Special is a full-power cartridge in its own right, but it operates at lower pressures than .44 Magnum, resulting in less recoil and blast while still delivering serious downrange performance. It's ideal for shooters who want genuine .44 caliber authority without managing magnum-level kick on every trigger pull.

Does the Bulldog come with holster or accessories?

The facts provided cover the revolver itself. Contact us for details on available holsters, grips, or packages that may be offered with this model.

Why double-action-only instead of single/double action?

DAO design eliminates the single-action hammer spur, reducing snag points for carry and removing the temptation to cock the hammer under stress. It also simplifies the trigger sequence for defensive use, where speed and consistency matter more than traditional target-shooting ergonomics.
