The Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special is a compact revolver built for serious personal protection without the excessive recoil of a magnum. This 5-shot wheelgun delivers the stopping power you need in a package small enough to carry daily—a proven design that's earned its reputation since 1973, even earning a role with U.S. Sky Marshalls. The .44 Special chamber strikes a balance: it generates nearly twice the muzzle energy of a .38 Special but with noticeably less punish than a .357 Magnum, making it an excellent choice for shooters who want effective defensive capability without beating themselves up at the range.
Built on a large stainless steel frame finished in black passivate, this Bulldog feels substantial in hand while remaining genuinely portable. The 2.5-inch barrel keeps the overall length to 7.25 inches and the weight to a manageable 19 ounces—ideal for ankle rigs, desk drawers, or off-duty carry. Rosewood checkered grips provide secure purchase and a classic aesthetic, while fixed sights keep the gun simple and snag-free. The standard hammer cycles cleanly, and the cylinder swings freely for quick reloads when they matter.
This is a revolver for shooters who respect stopping power and reliability over tactical modularity. If you want a short-barreled defensive revolver that doesn't require you to be a recoil masochist, the Bulldog .44 Special delivers.
