The Battle Arms Development BAD-ASS Elite Ambi Safety Selector is a fully ambidextrous AR-15 safety upgrade built for shooters who demand precision engineering and rock-solid reliability. Whether you're running a precision rifle build, a duty gun, or a competition AR, this modular safety selector delivers the ergonomic control and mechanical durability that separates purpose-built components from budget compromises. BAD developed the original patented ambidextrous safety for the AR platform—and this Elite version refines that foundation with a patent-pending internal locking mechanism that eliminates the weak points found in traditional designs.

The core innovation here is mechanical simplicity done right. The reversible safety center offers both a standard throw (0°–90°) and short-throw (0°–60°) configuration, both built into one piece—you just choose which lever angle works for your hand position and lower receiver. Both standard and short levers are included and fully interchangeable, so lefties and righties can dial in their preferred control without hunting for a left-hand-specific part. The patented dovetail attachment and internal locking set screw eliminate the failure modes that plague cheaper selectors: no sheared screw heads, no stripped detent grooves, no wiggle in the lever when your life depends on a positive safety engagement.

Compatibility is engineered in from the start. The safety works with all known AR-15 mil-spec lower receivers—with or without a short-throw relief cut—and pairs with any AR trigger designed for mil-spec geometry, from budget to match-grade names. The included short-throw marking sticker solves the old problem of needing a custom relief cut in your lower. Swiss CNC machining of the hardened steel center and investment-cast 8620 steel levers ensure consistent, butter-smooth operation and a positive lock you can trust. This is a made-in-USA part backed by a limited lifetime warranty and BAD's reputation for standing behind their work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the BAD-ASS Elite safety work with my AR-15 lower and trigger?

Yes. The BAD-ASS Elite is compatible with all mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers (with or without a short-throw relief cut) and all AR-variant triggers designed to work with mil-spec-geometry AR-15 safeties. This includes brands like Hiperfire, Geissele, CMC, Timney, and others. If you're using the short-throw option on a lower without the proper markings, simply apply the included short-throw marking sticker.

What's the difference between the standard throw and short-throw configurations?

The safety center is reversible and allows you to choose either a 0°–90° standard throw or 0°–60° short-throw angle. Both configurations are built into the single center piece—no separate parts to buy. The choice depends on your hand size, grip angle, and lower receiver design. Both lever angles (standard and short) are included so you can experiment and find your preference.

Do I need a relief cut in my lower receiver to use the short-throw option?

No. Unlike earlier ambidextrous selectors, the BAD-ASS Elite center fits all mil-spec safety selector holes without a relief cut. If your lower does not have the short-throw FIRE markings printed or engraved, use the included marking sticker to properly label the short-throw range.

What makes the internal locking mechanism better than spring-loaded detents?

The patent-pending internal locking mechanism uses a self-locking set screw that cannot fall out and requires no thread-locker. The 5/64" screw is designed to resist stripping and cannot shear because there is no exposed screw head to break. This delivers a positive, confident engagement without the wear, rattle, or part-loss issues common with spring-loaded detent designs.

Is this selector left-hand and right-hand compatible?

Yes. The safety is fully ambidextrous. Both the standard and short levers are included and fully interchangeable, allowing you to configure it for left-hand or right-hand operation. Simply install the lever on whichever side suits your shooting hand.
