The Charter Arms Undercover II .38 Special revolver is a compact double-action wheelgun built for shooters who need serious capability in a pocket-friendly package. Whether you're looking for a backup piece, a deep-concealment carry option, or a reliable defensive revolver for home defense, the Undercover II delivers the simplicity and stopping power of a .38 Special in a gun that won't weigh down your waistband or backpack. The 2.2-inch barrel keeps the profile trim without sacrificing the velocity you need, while the 6-round capacity gives you a full cylinder of confidence.

This particular configuration features a striking olive drab green finish paired with high-polish pearl grips—a combination that splits the difference between tactical function and classic style. The aircraft-grade aluminum frame keeps weight minimal, a genuine asset if you're carrying this gun daily. The double-action trigger means there's no hammer to cock in a defensive situation; you draw and press. The spurred hammer is shrouded, which prevents snagging on gear or clothing, and the full hammer block safety system keeps the gun mechanically safe even if dropped. That matters.

Charter Arms equipped the Undercover II with a fiber-optic front sight that gathers ambient light for faster target acquisition in less-than-ideal conditions. The 3-point cylinder lock-up ensures the cylinder stays rock-solid under recoil, and the shrouded ejector rod protects it from damage during carry. This is a purpose-built defensive revolver for real-world conditions, not a range toy or collectible.

The gun ships in a black plastic case, so you've got secure transport out of the box. If you carry a revolver for work, sport, or home defense, and you value dependability over trend, the Undercover II is worth serious consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a shrouded and exposed hammer on a revolver?

The Undercover II's shrouded hammer reduces the risk of snagging on a holster, waistband, or gear during the draw or carry. An exposed hammer can catch cloth or leather in a critical moment. The trade-off is that you can't manually cock the hammer to fire in single-action mode—but in a defensive revolver, that's not a feature most people need or want.

Is this revolver suitable for concealed carry?

Yes. At 6.75 inches overall and built on an aluminum frame, the Undercover II is designed for deep concealment. The compact 2.2-inch barrel and lightweight build make it a practical choice for pocket carry, ankle carry, or inside-the-waistband carry depending on your holster and comfort preference.

What does the 3-point cylinder lock-up do?

A 3-point cylinder lock-up means the cylinder locks into the frame at three points—the rear, front, and center—rather than just one or two. This rigid connection maintains perfect cylinder alignment even under the recoil and stress of repeated firing, which improves accuracy and reliability over the life of the gun.

What ammunition does this revolver use?

The Undercover II is chambered in .38 Special. It fires standard .38 Special ammunition and will not accept .357 Magnum rounds (which are too long and powerful for this gun). Stick with .38 Special for this revolver.
